Johnny Appleseed was vegetarian. Serving meat at a Johnny Appleseed festival honoring the man is tantamount to having segregated toilets at a Martin Luther King Jr rally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKr4HZ7ukSE and http://www.veganvideo.org
How cool! It's sad to think that in today's society Johnny would probably be looked upon as a homeless and potentially dangerous vagrant. If he offered an apple to a child today the kid would probably run screaming (stranger danger = all unfamiliar adults are threats) and the cops would likely lock him up.
