Snowed. . .

So, we have been visited by our services coordinator 2x so far. This week we will meet with his mentor and set some goals for the program and for Dustin to work on. We have sat in the living room and talked about Dustin's strengths and weaknesses. She told us how the program works and we chatted about our needs. Both times Dustin has been present while we chatted. He got approximately 1500 stink eyes from me during this time. He has however been decent. He usually is when he is the center of attention.

Today she said, "Honestly I am surprised he qualified for this program since he is so well behaved."

BWA HAHAHAHAHA !

I said, "He has you snowed!"

  2. Ahhhh. I love me some naive professonals.

(I am not saying they ALL are naive, just that when we encounter one it is maddening.)

Gotta love the power of charming and the mama stink eye!

  3. Snarf. Been there. Makes you want to pinch him just so he'll have an outburst, doesn't it?

  4. Ah....so many people to snow, so little time. My son can perform like a trained monkey when he wants to and he'll be grinning from ear to ear - at me - the whole time (when it suits him). He did, however, go through a long stretch (it started in Oct. '08 and went for about 17 mos - we still get flashes of it now and again) where he was utterly incapable of being appropriate or respectful around anyone at all - I was doing the happy dance, believe you me. We were doing intake for a behavioral health clinic and he was asking the intake worker if he could take the toys home (he was 14 and wanted to bring preschool toys home). She told him no, that they were for all the kids who came in. He totally lost it and yelled at her for being a selfish b--ch!! hahhaha - is it wrong to be so excited about others seeing this? After being told for years that no one else saw anything unusual about his behavior and being treated like a ding bat who was just being negative - ah yeah. Our intake, which was supposed to take 2-3 hours (one appt), ended up taking 3 appts. and approximately 7 hours because he kept getting pissed at the answers I was giving her and raging in the office. He called me a liar about pretty much every answer I gave, which slowed us down considerably. My favorite moment was when they had the psychiatrist come into the room to calm him down and he claimed to him that he wasn't "allowing" his meds to work. The dr. smirked a little and said, "really? you have that kind of mind control, huh?" and my dear, crazy child says, "Yep, I can make them just not work, what are you gonna do about that?". Ah....naive, silly boy - what he'll do about it is make a note in your file and add more meds!! It is so cool when someone gets it - too bad it's so few and far between.
